It is located on Av. San Martin and La Orteguina passage next to the Tourism Office.

The museum is located in the old house of the La Orteguina ranch, a provincial historical heritage monument, where we can find the natural and cultural history of our department, in a tour that begins millions of years ago with fossils from different geological periods, which show us the passage of time from marine ingressions, the habitat of the dinosaurs, the formation of the mountain range and the large mammals of the Quaternary, these mega mammals coexisted with the first human groups that inhabited the geography more than 10,000 years ago, these hunter-gatherer groups based their subsistence mainly on hunting guanacos, collecting fruits and seeds such as carob, with the incorporation of new technologies 2000 years ago, such as ceramics, bow and arrow, visual communication through rock art, they were able to occupy all the environments of Malargüe to the volcanic region of La Payunia. Its cultural heritage is still alive in the native communities and rural farmers, which we observe in objects, stories, traditions and customs. This historical continuity shows us the economic, productive, social and cultural development of Malargüe to this day.
