HISTORIA

Flora and Fauna of Malargüe

From a biogeographical point of view, different regions converge in Malargüe: Monte, Patagonia and Andean, forming a transition zone called ecotone.
There is a great variety of environments both in the mountain range and in the plain (mallines, salt flats, sandbanks and lagoons), where both its flora and fauna have evolved in a very particular way.

The flora of the place is characterized by being low-lying and xerophilous (adapted to dry climates), on the other hand, the fauna corresponds to its ecotonal characteristic, adding species from the different biogeographic zones.

Malargüe has an endemic species (it does not live anywhere else in the world) and of very high conservation value, this species is the “Pehuenche frog”, we can also find very particular animals such as the Andean cat or the executioner lizard among others.
