Via Crucis in Malargüe: A Journey of Faith and Reflection

Celebration of San Cayetano in Malargüe: Faith and Tradition August 7th
Every August 7th, the city of Malargüe dresses up in festivities to honor San Cayetano, the saint of prosperity and bread. The celebration begins with an emotional procession that starts from the Cincuentenario clock, in the heart of the city, and advances with fervor towards the parish of San Cayetano.
During the procession, the faithful, carrying images and flowers in their hands, express their devotion and gratitude, creating an atmosphere of community and spirituality. Upon arriving at the parish, the mass is presided over by the bishop, who offers his blessing and shares a message of hope and faith.
The parish priest Alejandro Ginerse, in a gesture of camaraderie, prepares and serves hot chocolate, a highly anticipated moment that invites everyone to enjoy and share in a spirit of unity. This act not only represents the warmth of the community, but also symbolizes the abundance that San Cayetano represents.
Pilgrimage to the Virgin of Lourdes – Laguna de la Niña Encantada
Every year, numerous devotees participate in the Pilgrimage to the Virgin of Lourdes, an event that unites the community of Malargüe in a spiritual walk to the beautiful Laguna de la Niña Encantada. During the journey, the pilgrims accompany the image of the Virgin, creating an atmosphere of contemplation and devotion. Upon reaching the lagoon, an emotional open-air mass is celebrated, marking the high point of the day. The pilgrimage ends with a family reunion where a special meal is shared, strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and faith among the participants.
Procession of the Virgin of Carmen – July 16
Every July 16, the community of Malargüe gathers to celebrate the Virgin of Carmen, known as the protector of sailors and spiritual guide of those who seek strength in faith. This celebration begins with a procession through the neighborhoods near the Virgen del Carmen Parish, a tour that invites the faithful and tourists to join in a gesture of devotion and hope.
At the end of the journey, a mass is held in her honor, and the church opens its doors to share a delicious chocolate among all attendees. The story of the Virgin of Carmen is deeply significant in the Catholic tradition, being a figure of protection and company in difficult times.
Celebration of the Virgin of Luján – May 8
On May 8, Malargüe is filled with devotion in honor of the Virgin of Luján, patron saint of Argentina and symbol of unity and protection. The faithful gather at the Cincuentenario clock, in the heart of the city, and from there they begin a solemn procession that runs through the streets of Malargüe until reaching the Parish of San Cayetano.
Upon arrival, a special mass is celebrated, where the community gathers in an act of faith and gratitude. The history of the Virgin of Luján, rooted in the heart of Argentina, gives strength to this day, where tourists and neighbors come together to celebrate the hope and tradition that she represents.
Pilgrimage to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

On this unique pilgrimage, the devotees of Malargüe travel through rivers, mountains and springs, taking their faith to every corner of the Andean landscape. During the journey, they visit the stands of local families, sharing with them moments of encounter and tradition: outdoor barbecues, mates that are passed from hand to hand and a warm spirit of community.
This journey of faith culminates in the Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, where the pilgrims, strengthened by the journey and the hospitality received, gather in an act of gratitude and devotion. It is an experience that unites love for nature, respect for traditions and the faith that give life to Malargüe.
Celebration of the Virgin of the Rosary – October 7
The Virgin of the Rosary, patron saint of Malargüe and the Church of the Rosary, is the center of a deep devotion that is lived every year in our community. From September 28 to October 6, a novena is held with daily masses and moments of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, where the faithful unite in prayer and reflection.
The celebration culminates on October 7, a special day in which the community gathers to pay homage to its patron saint, strengthening faith and a sense of belonging. The Virgin of the Rosary is seen as a protective mother who guides her devotees and gives them hope and comfort in difficult times. This festivity is an opportunity to renew faith and celebrate Christian life, meditating on the mysteries of the life of Christ and the Virgin Mary.
